The price of Spanish hotels rises in February to 84 euros on average
84 euros per night in a double room is the average price of hotels in Spain in February according to the study of the hotel price comparator www.trivago.es. They are only three euros above last month but it serves to give a respite to the hotel sector after many months of declines. Nevertheless, prices remain lower than during the same period last year.
According to Trivago, the average price of Spanish hotels in February 2010 is 84 euros, 4 per 100 higher than last month, when the average was 81 euros. This month, marked by carnival and Valentine's Day getaways, has meant important differences in the rates of the different destinations. Barcelona registers the largest increase in the country, going from 90 euros on average in January to 102 this month. There are few cities where there are decreases in average rates. Segovia the most significant case. While in January its average was 84 euros, now it stands at 76.
León and Logroño the cities with the lowest rates in Spain, both with 63 euros on average, followed by Santiago de Compostela -66 euros-, and Murcia -67 euros-. The city with the most expensive hotel rates is still Palma de Mallorca, with an average of 107 euros.
Compared to February 2009, there was a significant decrease in hotel prices in Spanish cities. The most important has occurred in San Sebastian, where prices have fallen by 18 per 100. There are also big declines in Murcia (15 per 100) or Valencia (14 per 100). Cáceres is the only city in which prices have been maintained. Currently the average per night in a double room is 74 euros in the city of Extremadura.
Europe also registers decreases compared to 2009, although there are exceptions such as Venice or London. The countries with the highest prices are Switzerland, with 163 euros on average, and Norway, 159 euros. In the queue is Poland, 64 euros on average, the Czech Republic and Hungary, both with 67 euros on average.
