Latin America. The pandemic caused by COVID-19 has made changes in the way we relate to work, with teleworking or remote work being installed as an option in many companies. According to Statista, in Mexico, for example, during June 2020 more than 72% worked from home.
Faced with this, there was an explosion of digital nomads, that is, people who use the internet and an electronic device to work remotely. Combining work with his passion for travel.
A study of the State of Labor Independence in the United States conducted by MBO Partners notes that 10.9 million American workers were described in 2020 as digital nomads, which meant an increase of 49% compared to 2019. Meanwhile, the travel platform Airbnb, mentions that the volume of reviews of American guests that mention the word "remote work" since the beginning of the pandemic tripled compared to 2019.
But what are the ideal places for digital nomads to work? While this type of traveler can work from a hotel, a café or in spaces rented through digital platforms, the truth is that coworkings can be the place that digital nomads need.
"Being a digital nomad allows for professional liberation from geographic boundaries, routines and fixed schedules. And although digital nomads travel a lot, they are not the type of traditional traveler, because these people are always accompanied by their work, so they need to find a place that ensures they can work 100% adequately, "said Ernesto de Olazával, CEO and co-founder of Comunal Coworking.
Coworkings are flexible places for flexible people. With contracts adapted to your needs, diversity of schedules, with good internet connectivity, meeting rooms, computer systems and ergonomic spaces, so they can represent a good option for digital nomads. A plus of these spaces is that people can coincide with other professionals, allowing the exchange of knowledge and practices that favor the development and incubation of projects.
In this regard, Ernesto de Olazával believes that "it is essential to promote flexibility in jobs, since this model will increase the productivity of workers and also find the best talent regardless of their geographical location."
The move to remote work as a result of the pandemic has made it visible that remote work works, which will allow many workers to join to be digital nomads, since it is estimated that in the next 2 to 3 years the trend will grow more than 19 million, according to data from MBO Partners. "This will contribute to the fact that over time we will see more digital nomads working in coworkings and other spaces, as well as more traditional offices becoming flexible spaces," concluded De Olazával.
