ChatGPT could be used to automate facility management processes

Latin America. Ending the year 2022, the company OpenAI launched the prototype of chatbot specialized in language called ChatGPT, it is a tool that works with artificial intelligence GPT-3. It specializes in natural language processing functions, ranging from having conversations with users or answering questions, to performing translations and generating texts on any topic. However, they always end up being mechanical questions and with limitations to understand certain words and expressions of the users if it is not well trained.

As for the Facility Management sector, ChatGPT can be used to automate many routine tasks and processes. ChatGPT can be used to process requests, classify them and if integrated with more systems can even execute them.

According to the company FMHOUSE "using this technology, FM professionals can also manage maintenance and repair tasks (from programming to generating reports), as well as inventory tracking (analysis, general management to improve the overall efficiency of the property ...) and this, through the direct request of: "Create a report with this data, including conclusions of the analysis of these, risks and possible recommendations."

However, this technology is a pre-trained model, which means that it has used thousands of data sources to be able to have the capabilities with which it is presented today in the market. Artificial intelligence models of this type have a disadvantage and that is the reliability of the information with which they are trained, since it cannot be determined if it was trained with true information.

The same company argues that "this type of technology should not be used without having a criterion or prior knowledge of what is being asked of it or at least if the information is not verified with a secondary source. For example, a person can ask for an explanation about black holes and if the model is not trained with adequate information it can deliver an explanation with academic level about something that is not true. "

They also conclude that: "It is vitally important to always see this type of technology as a tool, which must be at all times adjusted with the knowledge of the professional for responsible use. Respecting this premise, a potential can be generated for all kinds of FM applications that increase the efficiency and accuracy of the creation of documents, reports, plans, budgets of different activities of the FM service and, even, enabling the beginning of the digitization of a department ".
