I have always been one of the people who thank, greet, help when someone requests some information that I can give them, and what I like most is when I receive that same treatment in restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacies, shops, shopping centers and of course in hotels.
Recently I was traveling in a Latin American country and I said to someone: "Here people serve very well" and that person looked at me with a face of ... what do you say? 20 minutes later the waitress approaches him and says: "Sir, right, you asked me for a ceviche? I forgot" and he looked at me and with his gaze told me everything.
I thought that it had been an oblivion of the girl for her multiple requests, but little by little I realized that it was something generalized in the people of the city and that unfortunately no one attended well; neither in the supermarkets nor in the shopping centers only in the hotels there was excellent service and friendliness.
If I'm honest, it's great that hotel employees respond to you with a smile, help you, be kind, but I was sad to know that if I left the hotel I didn't know what was going to happen, how they were going to answer me, if they did.
I touch on this topic because I know that all of you care about providing the best attention to guests, but being a tourist / visitor goes beyond the hotel, it is to tour the city, visit museums, go shopping, rumba ... and that is when we must think about what to do as hoteliers, as a guild that cares about the visitor, so that it feels comfortable and well taken care of.
I think you have to bring together other entrepreneurs, all those industries that also have contact with visitors and people in general and carry out campaigns of good service and kindness, because good attention will always make someone come back, but a bad face will not only hurt the day to the other person, but it will give a bad image of the city.
We are not an industry isolated from the world, we are the face of cities, of countries, but we must work for this from the inside out as well.
