# [ Construction sector for zero consumption](https://www.gerenciadeedificios.com/en/news/latest-news/375-enterprises/6696-construction-sector-for-zero-consumption.html "Construction sector for zero consumption")

Details 05 August 2007 ![](https://www.gerenciadeedificios.com/images/stories/03-04/03_04_noticia_constructor.jpg)Representatives of U.S. building and air conditioning associations and members of the U.S. Green Building Council, supported by representatives of the U.S. Department of Energy, signed an agreement that establishes a common starting point and goal for net-to-zero energy buildings. The document "allows the building design sector to move forward with projects that use much less energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create healthy and comfortable spaces," the groups stated.

The associations that signed the agreement were the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), Architecture 2030, the Lighting Engineering Society of North America (IESNA), and the U.S. Green Building Council. The ultimate goal of the memorandum is to create carbon-neutral buildings, that is, that do not use energy from external power grids and operate at fair market values. The construction sector emits nearly half of the greenhouse gases in the U.S.
