      Details     05 August 2007           The growth of the hotel industry in the Caribbean continues to cause impacts on the environment. Raising hotel awareness and fostering a pathway to integrate better social and environmental practices into day-to-day business decisions is a critical first step in preserving the tropical paradise, according to a statement from the Caribbean Hotel Association announcing the 2007 Caribbean Environmental Award given by the partnership and American Express to Sandals Grande Ocho Rios Beach and Villa Resort, Jamaica. The property has been certified with the Green Globe seal since November 2006 and has been following an environmental management system since January 2001. This system lays the foundations of its environmental program, which includes: water use, electricity consumption, generation of solid waste and water pollutants, toxic waste, generation of atmospheric emissions, damage to the ecosystem and noise pollution. All of this is little in the face of management's emphasis on employee-community relations, including continued guest orientation, to achieve effective environmental policy, said Peter J.
