To do this, they do everything possible to reduce their energy and water consumption and increase their recycling, so that the environmental impact is as low as possible. Currently, Quintana Roo has around 40 hotels and 19 sustainable companies that have the EarthCheck certificate and seven beaches have the Blue Flag distinction. These two distinctions are among the most recognized in terms of ecological sustainability at an international level; 40 percent of the 50 companies in Mexico that annually seek the first certification are from Quintana Roo. - Publicidad - Érica Lobos, EarthCheck's representative for Mexico and Latin America, commented that this certificate does not guarantee an increase in hotel occupancies, although 73 percent of travelers internationally seek to go to a beach, hotel, tourist attraction or sustainable destination and are willing to pay up to 40 percent more to stay or visit these sites. "Among the benefits that a company obtains by having this distinction are many, but the main one is to add value to the brand and a considerable level of savings," he said. Among the places that have this recognition in Quintana Roo are: the Tres Ríos Hotel, the Rey del Caribe Hotel, the Moon Palace complex, Royalton, Me, Paradissus, Secrets The Vine and Hard Rock, among others, as well as theme parks such as Xcaret, Xel Ha, Xochimilco and even the Cancun Convention Center.
