Details 13 March 2018 ![](https://www.gerenciadeedificios.com/images/stories/GDE/users/sjaramillo1/sensor.jpg)*International.* They have developed a fine dust sensor for buildings capable of identifying and monitoring pollution levels within a room.

The new fine dust sensor is based on laser technology and measures air particulate pollution in two categories: PM 2.5 and PM 10, i.e. matter with a diameter of 0.3 to 2.5 micrometers or 0.3 to 10 micrometers, respectively. This technology is primarily designed for use in offices and residential spaces.

The fine dust sensor is the latest addition to Siemens' offering to create a healthy indoor climate. In fact, the company already has carbon dioxide (CO2) sensors that help reduce the concentration of CO2 in the ambient air and, at the same time, increase the concentration of oxygen (O2) to improve employee productivity.

On the other hand, volatile organic compound (VOC) sensors are used to measure harmful degassing that originates in building materials and elements such as carpets and furniture. All Siemens sensors have analog signal outputs and meter bus (M-Bus), allowing them to connect to Siemens heating, ventilation and HVAC controls such as: Climatix and Desigo Room Automation, as well as integrate into building management systems such as Desigo DC.

To achieve the desired indoor climate, the system can activate additional filters or increase ventilation power.

To help improve well-being in residential buildings, Siemens also has a smart thermostat to control the heating of homes and increase their energy efficiency. The thermostat has built-in sensors to regulate room temperature, air quality, humidity and detect the presence of people. In addition, it can be combined with external sensors for outside temperature or switches for opening windows.

Thermostat control is intuitive and can be done via a mobile app or via the touchscreen. The smart thermostat is connected to a WLAN compatible router that ensures the data is sent to the Siemens cloud. Users can access this data from the app and control up to 12 thermostats from their mobile phone. It also has a self-learning algorithm that determines the best heating strategy to achieve the desired level of comfort.

Desigo Total Room Automation (TRA) technology merges the individual disciplines of air conditioning, lighting and sun protection in a coordinated way. With this new member of the Desigo family, the automation of environments adapts to the growing needs in an even more flexible way. Thanks to this technology, any home or office can achieve the right ambient temperature, perfect lighting conditions and high indoor air quality at all times, as well as minimal energy consumption and a reduction in CO2 emissions.
