International. The Professional Association of Maintenance for Retail Stores (PRSM) published its annual report on the state of the Facility Management industry for the retail sector and the main trends that impact professionals who are dedicated to this area.
The Internet of Things (IoT) tops the five issues that impact the professionals responsible for operating large stores. Among the companies included in the report are, among others, Amazon, Walgreens, Walmart, Kohl's, Macy's, Niemen Marcus and Staples.
"While facility managers can't control market conditions, they can shape the retail environment in which they operate by using advanced technology, data management, and developing the skills needed for the future," PRSM says.
According to the report, the top 5 trends in the industry for 2016 are: The Internet of Things, distribution center management, waste management, employee quality, and hiring minority-owned suppliers.
In the first point, the challenge is to use innovations in this field to offer more value to the work of the FM. distribution centers, on the other hand, are increasing and have their own characteristics to which FMs will have to adapt. As for waste management, the primary focus will be to reduce the amount of waste and recycle as much as possible.
