Guatemala. Authorities and businessmen recently participated in an international forum in Guatemala, headed by the mayor of the capital Álvaro Arzú, to promote "friendly" constructions with the environment and promote sustainability in this sector.
Arzú, who toured an exhibition of the construction industry, simultaneous with specialized conferences, said at the forum that Guatemala City is the second "greenest" in Latin America, with the planting of two million trees and ecological parks.
The former Guatemalan president, who ruled from 1996 to 2000, said the city government supports "responsible construction that contributes to the well-being of the population."
The head of the Guatemalan Chamber of Construction (CGC), José René Gonzáles-Campo, told local media that this union supports actions "for a more sustainable Guatemala", and that a city of the future must have sustainable and friendly practices.
The forum, sponsored by the CGC and the Canadian Embassy, is being held for the third consecutive year, as part of World Sustainable Construction Week. In the III International Construction Green Expo, experiences were exchanged on technologies, materials and services focused on constructions that consider the environment and natural resources, said the president of the CGC.
He reiterated that at the event, in which international speakers such as Neno Kovacevic, from Canada, presented technologies that can contribute to the construction sector to create works that are aware of the environment.
