International. AENOR (Spanish Association for Standardization and Certification) underlines the contribution of this standard to the promotion of a culture of energy saving as well as the economic benefits derived from its certification.
The application of this standard has managed to generate systematic savings for organizations of between 5% and 30% of energy costs, according to a recent balance sheet by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). In addition, this standard helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Spanish companies are the sixth in the world and third in Europe by number of Energy Management certificates according to UNE-EN ISO 50001, with 390 certificates, a very important fact taking into account the size of the Spanish business park. In addition, 9 out of 10 organizations that use this standard recommend it and 95% of users say it helps them identify the activities that consume the most energy, according to ISO.
Since its inception, this standard has had the backing of organizations and countries as a solid support to move towards a sustainable energy future. For example, the Ministerial Conference on Clean Energy (CEM) has launched an initiative to achieve up to "50,001" certified under this Standard by 2020. In addition, Germany has launched a tax incentive scheme to encourage companies to become certified.
