International. Work environments are becoming increasingly important in the labour market and have a direct impact on worker well-being. For this reason, IFMA Spain, Spanish Association of Facility Management, organized a few days ago a meeting entitled 'Productivity and Good Practices in Facility Management' with the aim of knowing how the work environment and the environment in general influences workers.
Raquel Cruz, director of communication of IFMA Spain and director of large accounts at ISS, opened the debate organized by this entity, a few days ago, for -together with Marta Sevila, Workplace & Purchasing manager Iberia at Xerox; Francisco Javier Cirac, Managing Director at Diadec; Jonatan Molina, manager of Ofita Madrid; and Rosa Jemez, facilities management manager at Mondelez, to analyze how work environments affect workers and to know their influence on the balance of companies' results.
In this sense, the participants stressed the importance of cultural change being supported by management. The employee must want to go to their offices because it offers different solutions that facilitate reconciliation and directly influence their productivity.
In this way, the experts pointed to flexibility as key, but also the balance between teleworking and office attendance to achieve an optimal productivity quota. "Companies must retain their employees with an attractive offer, based on products and services, and move away from presenteeism," IFMA said in a statement.
Office work time serves to increase creativity, teamwork and collaboration, so "spaces must adapt to these needs," they describe. Thus, "trends point to versatile meeting rooms or the non-allocation of fixed positions, but the important thing is to study each particular company to adapt spaces and services to their philosophy and culture above fashions."
The facility manager is the defender of the experiences of the worker, seeks their well-being, providing added value above cost and supporting everything that is necessary.
To achieve their goals, Facility Management and Human Resources "must go hand in hand". Both disciplines must create "favorable environments, services, good communication and manage people taking into account the new generations and needs", as employees increasingly demand a personal rather than family conciliation.
Attendees said that if companies do not bet on these trends, they will lose talent, affect their results and be less competitive in the market. The workspace should be a reflection of the company culture and the people who are members should feel proud to belong to it and show it to their customers.
