International. Philips Lighting has announced its intention to change its name from Philips Lighting to Signify. The choice of the new company name comes from the fact that lighting becomes an intelligent language, connecting and conveying meaning. The company will continue to use the Philips brand under the existing licensing agreement with Royal Philips.
The choice of the new company name comes from the fact that lighting becomes an intelligent language, connecting and conveying meaning.
Philips Lighting's roots go back more than 125 years when Frederik and Gerard Philips founded the company in 1891 in the Dutch city of Eindhoven. Throughout its history, the company has been a leader in introducing the main advances in the lighting industry. Today, we lead the industry globally from the conventional market, LED and connected lighting, with the most extensive network of connected lights.
The new name meets the company's contractual requirements under the company's name license agreement with Royal Philips, which involves the change in less than 18 months since Royal Philips does not have a majority stake.
