As indicated recently by the head of the Prevention Department of the Fire Department of Tulcán, Ecuador, Rubén Fuentes, the public and private buildings of that city do not have the minimum security measures that allow to prevent and adequately attend to situations of disasters and calamities.
According to the expert, these measures are, as a minimum, an evacuation route, a fire extinguisher for each floor correctly installed and functional, a cabinet with fire tools for each plant and that has an independent line of drinking water with a sufficient supply to quell the fire.
Buildings such as the one that houses the officials of the Government and Social Security do not comply with these preventive measures, said Fuentes, who added that the Municipality is in the process of gradually implementing these elements.
In addition to public buildings, private buildings do not pay attention to these observations, only the Prefectural building responds to these security measures.
From the municipal building they report that fire extinguishers have already been installed on each floor, while they study the possibility of allocating an economic item to solve these security needs in order to make that structure an ideal space for employees and visitors.
