Colombia. DANE reported earlier this week that the Colombian economy grew by 4.2% between July and September due to a greater boost in construction, especially that of buildings and civil works. In 2013 it had grown 5.7%.
Mauricio Perfetti, director of DANE, said that in the third quarter of this year the most dynamic sector was construction with 12.7% driven by the growth of new buildings with 14.1% and civil works with 11.1%.
For his part, the Minister of Finance, Mauricio Cárdenas stressed that the construction sector continues to strongly mark economic activity by showing a variation of 12.7% during the third quarter.
He also considered that the above becomes especially relevant if one takes into account that in the same period of 2013 it registered a variation of more than 20%. This result is explained by the dynamics of both civil works and buildings, which for the third quarter of the current year reached growth of 14.1% and 11.1%, respectively.
The dynamics of the building subsector are mainly explained by the performance of non-residential buildings that for this period showed a growth of 29.0%".
