Colombia. At the end of 2018, the Bluedoors York Luxury Suites will be ready, a new luxury boutique hotel that Medellín will have, after an investment of 33 billion pesos (US$11 million) and that in its operation will generate 100 direct jobs and 200 more indirect jobs. At the same time it will be a challenge in the sector for FM.
Construction will begin in January of next year, in El Poblado, adjacent to the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce of Medellín for Antioquia and will have access through the santa María sector of Los Angeles. It will have a tower of 23 floors and 104 apartment-type suites and is in charge of Promotora Sagom de Bogotá and will have the architecture of the paisa firm Gómez Piedrahíta.
Investments to improve Medellín's hotel capacity translate into greater competition in a segment in which chains such as Hoteles Estelar, EE Hoteles and apartasuite projects such as Torre Poblado, among others, have already ventured.
Likewise, the city improves its profile as an international destination for business tourism, which boosts economic links such as transport, commerce and restaurants.
The business dynamics of the capital of Antioquia attracted Bogota investors, with a hotel product that aims for stays longer than three days.
In 2016, the city's hotel occupancy reached 66%, almost 10 points higher than the national average and 15% higher than in 2015, according to figures from the Medellín Convention & Visitors Bureau.
