The School Board of La Plata, Argentina, indicated that the budget it currently receives is insufficient to cover the maintenance needs of the district's schools.
As warned from that entity in case the costs continue to increase and the fund that is destined for this item is the same "educational establishments will be condemned to continue deteriorating".
This indicator results after analyzing the first results generated by a detailed study being carried out by the staff of the Council, which yields the conclusions of 50 educational institutions in La Plata (in the district there are 309 school buildings). This study aims to calculate the actual costs of current maintenance that are required for these establishments.
According to Alberto Darhanpé, president of the entity, the initiative was taken to initiate this study with the aim of having an accurate diagnosis of the daily work that must be carried out and, with the results, to seek solutions. "Because the truth is that the gap between the requests that enter daily from schools and the capacity to respond to them is enormous and is getting bigger and bigger."
It should be remembered that the amount dedicated to the maintenance of the schools is financed through the compensatory fund that results from the collection of a percentage of the gross income tax, which is distributed by the provincial government among the schools of the different districts in proportion to the number of educational institutions that are owned.
