EDITORIAL LETTER

When it comes to building management, we cannot ignore the value provided by the different technologies that are part of a property. Communication systems, information technology, surveillance, access control, lighting, air conditioning, among others, are today a fundamental part of any type of property, and it is the task of the Facility Manager not only to maintain these systems in optimal conditions, but also to take advantage of their potential to better exercise their tasks.

We recently welcomed the announcement of the approval by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) of the creation of a new international standard for facilities management. The standard on which work will begin and which could be published in about three years, will be known under the name ISO 41000 and will seek to provide guidance for process improvement in terms of facilities management.

The industry of the management and operation of buildings is in constant evolution, the arrival of new technologies, as well as the professionalization of the people linked to this work promote a continuous improvement of the processes necessary for an optimal performance of the buildings. 

In its almost two years of existence as Building Management, the magazine has grown hand in hand with its readers and has had a constant learning process with which we are increasingly immersed in the world of building management in Latin America.

Maintaining a good balance between operational and strategic functions is often a challenge in any job, regardless of the field in which we perform. Infrastructure management is no exception; in fact, many professionals are subject to dealing with emergency situations that can make it even more difficult to obtain this balance.
