Colombia. Within the framework of the Rio+20 Summit, which takes place in Bogotá between August 10 and 12, the local government launched its public policy on Ecourbanism and Sustainable Construction, which will promote the implementation of measures that will lead to the city being a leader in sustainable urban projects by 2024.
According to statements published by a local media of Gerardo Ardila, District Secretary of Planning, one of the axes of the policy will focus on promoting better construction practices.
With the above, it will seek to "generate appropriate construction techniques to carry out in the city on issues such as: sustainable mobility where the bicycle and the pedestrian are prioritized, the increase of parks and green areas, the generation of more permeability of the soil, the control of the levels of air pollution and noise that affect the health of the inhabitants", the official explained.
And he added that "finally, we seek the construction of more efficient and healthy buildings where water, energy are saved and adequate spaces are available for recycling." In addition, the policy proposes a series of regulatory instruments that allow the application of these good urban practices.
The updating of the Building Code is another of the objectives set by the government of Bogotá. This would include a sustainability approach, so that a recognition or certificate is granted by the District Secretariat of Environment to those constructions that bet on efficiency and sustainability.
"The certificate will allow projects to have recognition in the market with respect to those that do not. That will make it easier for people to buy an apartment or an office, knowing that the building meets standards that allow it to save water and energy, among other aspects," said spokesmen for the city administration.
