International. Google wants building plans to be part of its service as well, which is why it has created Cartographer.
Google's latest challenge is to offer maps of the interior of buildings. The company has made important advances in this field, which seeks that users can check the organization of buildings in the service. It is an especially useful possibility for museums, large public buildings or shopping centers.
From the company they have explained that until now they have collaborated with organizations and public entities that have provided official data of the buildings. However, Google has wanted to go a step further and has sought a tool with which to get interior plans more faithful to reality. The result is Cartographer, which brings the idea of Street View cars inside buildings.
Cartographer is a backpack equipped with reconnaissance technology, which allows you to capture plans of buildings while walking through them. In this way, a person who is in a building or structure can register its different parts as he walks. That information creates the blueprints of
buildings and then enter them into Google Maps. The official information that Google receives is complemented and more specific data can be offered to users.
Google has shown Cartographer and highlighted its usefulness. Although at the moment it has only been used as a test, Cartographer promises to be one more tool with which to make Google Maps even more useful for users.
