International . Stan Mitchell, president of the ISO TC 267 Committee of Facilities Management, will be one of the speakers present at the International Congress of Facility Managers - CIFMers - to be held on September 24 and 25, 2015 in Madrid. Mitchell will be in charge of a workshop on standards in Facility Management, a topic of great relevance after the announcement made by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) of the creation of a standard for facilities management.
In the interview conducted by the CIFMers organizing team, Mitchell states that "the 41000 system in Facilities Management has the potential to create a standard against which all Facilities Management systems can be measured, while also being able to guide those organizations that want to benefit from the experience and knowledge coming from the experts of the Working Group that is building the standards."
He added that "this management system standard therefore has greater potential than anything else we have collectively done to promote Facilities Management as a critical strategic discipline for the business and to influence business and commerce as to the importance of Facilities Management."
In addition, regarding the evolution of this discipline in the different markets, the interviewee said that "in most countries the market is the one that dictates the pace of development and growth, but I think there is now a growing awareness that the foundations of the most effective Facilities Management are based on the education and training that is being developed globally".
