International. Sergio Muñoz, president of the Spanish chapter of the BuildingSMART association, spoke with the organizers of CIFMers, the international congress on Facility Management that will be held in the city of Madrid, Spain on September 21 and 25, about the benefits that can bring for building managers to have a Building Information Modeling (BIM) system.
In this regard, Muñoz pointed out that "BIM seems to me an almost necessary starting point for Facility Management, since it allows to know in detail the building and the facilities that compose it, so that it can be managed properly. Therefore, it is important that BIM models are well defined, especially when their use will not be limited only to the construction phase, but also later to the maintenance phase."
The president of BuildingSMART added that "it is increasingly clear that the cost of a construction project is not that of the design or construction phase, but that of the entire life cycle of the same".
In the case of Latin America, Muñoz stressed that although the implementation of BIM is not yet widespread, there are countries with great interest in the subject such as Chile and Peru.
