Mexico. The subsidiary in Mexico of the Brazilian company Odebrecht, opened the call for the second edition of the Odebrecht Award for Sustainable Development, an initiative that seeks to convene students of Engineering and Architecture to present projects that propose innovative and sustainable solutions to issues such as infrastructure, water and energy.
As explained in the rules of the competition, participation in it must be in groups of three students who are enrolled at the time of registering the project, at least two of them studying Engineering or Architecture. In addition, the projects must have, on a mandatory basis, the advice of a professor from the same university.
The winners of the 2014 edition of this award were Héctor Garza, from the Civil Engineering career; Miguel Ángel Montes, student of International Business; and Jorge Carrasco, phD student in Biotechnology, who presented an initiative that seeks the development of a biomaterial made from agricultural waste that can replace expanded polystyrene.
