Peru. The National Program of Educational Infrastructure (Pronied) of the Ministry of Education of Peru (Minedu) allocated this year 112 million soles, US$35 million, for the maintenance of the infrastructure and furniture of 16 thousand public schools. Those responsible for executing the works are the directors and maintenance managers of each of the educational institutions, the government is only responsible for delivering the necessary resources.
So far, according to information provided by the ministry, schools have reported the use of 42.5% of the amount allocated in different works of improvement and adaptation of spaces. The repair of roofs and walls, both classrooms and health services, was reported as the main priority by schools.
Similarly, Pronied explained that it makes the transfer of resources for this purpose to all public schools in the country at the beginning of the year and that they have until September 30 to execute the budget. The only exception is the educational institutions built in the last year to which they do not receive money for this purpose because they have new infrastructure.
