International. The British subsidiary of ferrovial services, Amey, was awarded a contract for the collection and treatment of waste from the Isle of Wight for 25 years. The project reaches a value of 225 million pounds, about US$344 million. The contract, which will come into force in November of this year, includes the collection and treatment of household waste and recyclable material, the management of clean points and containers for glass and the realization of waste recovery services throughout the island, which exceeds 140,000 inhabitants.
Recycling and recovery acquire a capital importance in the project, since by 2020, 90% of the waste will be destined for reuse, recycling or composting in order to avoid being deposited in landfill. To achieve this goal, Amey will improve the existing waste management and treatment infrastructure on the island.
This new project consolidates Ferrovial's activity in the UK waste management market. Among the contracts that the company has been awarded in this sector are the construction and management of two treatment plants in Milton Keynes and North Yorkshire.
