Spain. Neinver, a Spanish company specialized in investment, development and management of retail assets, revealed that during 2014 it achieved a 22% decrease in CO2 emissions generated by the shopping centers it manages, as well as by its corporate offices in Spain. This significant reduction has been possible thanks to the incorporation of renewable sources, which account for 87% of the energy sources consumed in these centers.
In addition, the company decreased energy consumption by 8% and maintained water consumption at the same levels as in 2013, despite having registered a significant increase in the number of visits to shopping centers and outlets it manages in Spain.
On the other hand, taking into account all the assets it manages in Europe, Neinver managed to reduce the energy consumption of the assets in the portfolio by 8.9%. This saving was possible thanks to the implementation of an energy efficiency management system based on the ISO 50001 standard and the development of energy plans for each center.
Among the different actions carried out, the most common have been the installation of systems for the automatic management of lighting, the replacement of fluorescent lamps by LED lights, the optimization of heating systems and the renovation of inefficient equipment.
