International. The FMHouse Institute presented a few days ago the report "Analysis of IWMS Tools and Degree of Implementation of the Spanish Market", which has shown briefly and with a merely informative objective what is the degree of implementation of management tools in Facility Management (FM).
According to the conclusions drawn from this analysis carried out on a sample of 137 companies, more than 85% of companies have some type of specific FM management system implemented for some of their areas, with companies in the banking and telecommunications sector having a greater degree of implementation of the same.
The area in which the use of this type of tools is most used is maintenance, while, despite an upward trend, it is in the area of energy and sustainability where a specific tool is less common, according to the data collected in the analysis.
With the use of IWMS tools, the Facility Manager can have centralized and updated information, allowing him to efficiently manage the properties and their associated services.
However, it must be taken into account when implementing one of these tools that the main drawbacks according to its users, are the high cost and dedication by the company's own staff to feed the system, in addition to the fact that in many cases the implemented tool is not compatible with the rest of existing tools.
To avoid any of these inconveniences it is very important to make a case study to define the needs of the company and thus decide on the market tool that best suits the real needs of the company.
If done in this way, implementing an IWMS tool will be a great benefit for practically all FM departments and their day-to-day management.
