International. The Green Building and City Awards, in which exemplary buildings and districts participate, aims to promote concrete actions in order to promote sustainable practices in buildings and cities.
This year, the contest has broken the record of international participants, with nominations from 20 different countries. Professionals from China, Sri Lanka, India, the United States, Colombia and Switzerland, along with the participants of the national platforms, will compete for the Low Carbon and Energy and Temperate Climates awards, among others, being these the ones with the largest number of case studies, specifically 35 each.
With regard to the new Energy and Hot Climates category, it focuses on the design and use of indigenous materials as well as the use of energy efficiency strategies adapted to each climatic region. The contest will give visibility to many of these solutions so that they can serve as inspiration to other professionals.
The energy and temperate climates and Energy and warm climates categories include exemplary solutions in energy efficiency and renewable energy for temperate and warm climates. In the Smart Building and Smart City categories, innovative projects focused on automated waste and energy management, applying digital urban solutions or contributing to the balance of an energy network stand out. Another characteristic that has been taken into account in 2016 is the Carbon Footprint, within the Low Carbon category. In this category, the reduction of the carbon footprint is taken into account, both in the management and occupation stage, as well as in the construction stage.
