Colombia. In Colombia there are more than 2.6 million people with some type of disability, according to figures from the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE), which places the country in first place in prevalence of disability among the Andean nations, with 6.3%; followed by Ecuador (4.7%), Venezuela (3.9%), Chile (2.2%), Peru (1.3%) and Bolivia (1.1%), a panorama that undoubtedly generates a business opportunity for entrepreneurs, and proof of this is the company Gravomark, which will present the braille system applied to architectural signage at the International Fair of Bogotá, FIB, from September 26 to 30 in Corferias.
"In Bogotá I estimate that there are about 18 companies and 250 in the rest of the country, dedicated to the industry of trophy making, engraving of the same and architectural signage, a sector that generates approximately 19 billion pesos annually in Colombia," explained Alejandro Puerta, manager of Gravomark.
As far as the field of signage is concerned, Gravomark indisputably found an opportunity, specifically for the visually impaired. "We were fortunate to carry out two important works with braille language for the Javeriana University and a hospital in Pereira, which have been very successful," Said Puerta.
It is noteworthy that Braille signage is inclusive, that is, it also serves to guide sighted people. The signs that are mainly elaborated in Colombia are security warnings, emergencies or to indicate evacuation routes and fire extinguishers, and everything that has to do with ramps and architecture.
In such a way that the FIB will be the ideal setting to present the novelties developed in the braille architectural signage, to publicize the most recent techniques of mechanical engraving, laser and laser YAG; as well as establishing new commercial contacts, as it is a sector with many growth opportunities not only in Colombia but abroad, said the manager of Gravomark.
Undoubtedly, "the FIB is that platform of innovation and technology very useful to promote the industrial development of the country, since the companies, in this fair event make contacts and identify new proposals for modernization," said Lilian Conde, Project Manager of the FIB.
It should be noted that the FIB will have four specialized fairs: Colombiaplast and Expoempaque, the twelfth edition of Expometálica and the Mining Fair, the fifteenth version of Expoacaire and the eighth Expoenergía.
