Colombia. With the purpose of achieving a higher quality impact on society and the business sector, the University of the Coast CUC after different processes of evaluations and studies had the initiative to create a line of research focused on sustainable development that aims to encourage global thinking, promote innovative capacity and the development of strategic alliances with the external sector in order to strengthen the research groups of the University.
Within the process, three substantive functions equivalent to the academic part, research and extension are handled.
- The first seeks research to promote new knowledge.
- The second is to replicate them in undergraduate and graduate programs.
- The third, to implement them in society through extension projects, whether social projects, production, products such as patents or innovations.
Henry Maury Ardila, vice-rector for research at the CUC, affirms that "anything that is done as a private, public or society sector must take into account the social, economic and environmental field so that there is sustainability over time".
The University from the transversal point of view handles the issue of sustainability a lot from all its academic programs, faculties and departments.
According to the vice-rector, "this issue is being addressed in almost all research because it is of vital importance."
