Peru. The supermarket chain Wong would have plans to open 8 new stores in Peru during this year.
Following the fire that affected its facilities in 2016, the new Wong on Asia Boulevard was conceived as a building that would be designed, constructed and operated sustainably: maximizing energy efficiency, reducing resource consumption and creating a healthier environment for supermarket employees and the local community.
Aware of this, Cencosud Supermarkets opted to build the new Wong Asia under the highest international standards. This action has been recognized with the LEED certification, granted by the Sustainable Building Council of the United States (USGBC), which places it as an ecological building.
"At Cencosud Supermercados we have a sustainability policy with which we seek to mitigate and properly manage the environmental impacts of our operations to achieve a society with better levels of quality of life. Leed certification demonstrates our permanent commitment to environmental care. and manages, above all, to contribute with a positive space for the community and for the environment", says Marco Antonio Merino, marketing manager of Cencosud Supermercados, to the Stakeholders portal.
To carry out the LEED certification of a building, it is verified that several energy standards, resource savings, quality are met and it is necessary to maintain comfort, both during construction and in operation.
The aspects of improvement that stand out the most in the Wong supermarket located in the Asia district are the reduction in water use by 38.69% and energy savings by 18.2%. Likewise, it was certified that the supermarket did not affect rural or environmental protection areas, nor that it was close to large bodies of water, among other important achievements.
