Colombia. The President of the Republic, Iván Duque, confirmed the next issuance of the decree that will eliminate the energy surcharge for the hotel industry. The announcement was made at the launch of 'Co-nectados', a new national promotion program abroad promoted by the National Government.
"The announcement of President Duque around the issuance of the decree that eliminates the energy surcharge is very good news for the guild, since during the last five years we have been working to achieve this goal; one more example of the commitment of the National Government to strengthen the development of the country's hotel and tourism industry," said Gustavo Adolfo Toro Velásquez, national executive president of Cotelco.
According to the President, a joint work has been carried out with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, headed by Dr. José Manuel Restrepo, to apply a differential incentive to the hotel sector in terms of income.
Likewise, President Duque expressed the importance of promoting specialized tourism and emphasized two aspects. The first, the national and international dissemination of the Natural Parks in favor of the sustainability especially of the moors, which make up 50% of those existing around the world. Secondly, he stressed that activities such as bird watching and diving can be a great differential for the sector, but that more articulated work, creativity and promotion are required.
Duque also highlighted the importance of international cultural dissemination, which significantly increases tourism figures, such as the opening of the Casa de Colombia in Mexico City, a space designed to highlight the tourist, gastronomic and natural wealth of our country; the Government's initiative is to inaugurate a similar space soon in Paris, as well as to promote the work of cultural diplomacy, which stimulates tourism based on our customs and handicrafts around the world.
