Mexico. The Mexican Association of Hotels and Motels revealed that the hotel sector in Mexico has invested about US$4 billion in construction and renovation of properties. In addition, he stressed that the country currently has more than 18,600 hotels, but this figure is expected to increase during the remainder of 2015 to reach 19,000 properties.
The president of this association, Rafael García González, explained to local media that both national and foreign investment in new hotels is increasing. "We are at levels of 70 and 30 percent of investment, obviously the national is more than the foreign, the big Spanish chains see a lot towards the beach, towards the Riviera Maya," García said.
In the same sense, García González pointed out that there are more and more international chains interested in betting on the Mexican market. "Ibis, an international chain that did not have a presence in Mexico, is going to invest in 20 hotels, chains that had not come are being programmed, new national chains are also being made, we are growing a lot."
