Chile. A new project promoted by the Directorate of Architecture of the Ministry of Public Works of Chile (MOP), establishes that public buildings in this country must have mandatory energy efficiency certifications. The objective of the MOP is to require certification in 2015 for 50% of the new projects tendered and to increase this figure to 80% by 2017.
As explained by the MOP to local media, to achieve this objective, the tender for the Sustainable Building Certification (CES) will be incorporated among the requirements of the buildings, a system that allows evaluating, qualifying and certifying the environmental performance of buildings for public use in Chile.
This initiative is part of a master plan for sustainability and pollution reduction in Chile promoted by the Ministry of Environment of that country. The Decontamination Plan has three fronts of attack, which are the implementation of air prevention and decontamination plans, environmental health alerts plan and energy efficiency.
This same initiative will also seek to promote the use of clean fuels such as solar or wind energy.
