International . Michel Landel, Global CEO of the company Sodexo, gave an interview to the Spanish media Outlet Expansión, in which he spoke about the importance of offering quality of life to employees and also highlighted the link between well-being and productivity. Landel has been part of Sodexo since 1984 when he joined the company as head of operations for East and North Africa, and since 2015 he has served as the company's CEO.
The interview began by touching on the topic of how to guarantee quality of life at work. In that sense, Landel pointed out that "quality of life is not an exact science, it depends a lot on where you work. It has material aspects, but the most important thing is that it gives meaning to the activity that takes place. The employee makes sense of what he does if he is comfortable in his job."
The Sodexo executive also highlighted the role that diversity of all kinds plays in a work environment. Both in the sense of having employees of different faiths, race and gender, and in the sense of adaptability to different work circumstances.
"Diversity allows us to adapt to different ways of working. In our case, digital development is an important change and we try to work on flexibility so that it is a win-win, for the organization and for the individual," he said.
Landel also referred to the role that teleworking currently plays in organizations. "It's a management issue. What counts is the determination that the leader can have, then the company and the organization," he said.
He added that "we have 35,000 work units around the world and putting it into action is complicated, but what matters is determination and a sense of progress. Success is due to the reciprocal trust between company and employee."
