International. NCR Corporation announced that its global headquarters in Midtown Atlanta has been awarded two Platinum Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Leadership certifications for building design and construction: Core & Shell and commercial interior design and construction. In partnership with Cousins Properties and other project partners, NCR's innovative global headquarters is one of the first projects to receive two of the highest levels of LEED certification for the same building.
"From the initial designs of our building, NCR wanted to develop an environmentally sustainable workplace," said Mike Hayford, President and CEO of NCR. "Earning two LEED Platinum certifications demonstrates our commitment to providing our employees with efficient, productive and healthy workplaces, which is why we are proud to be one of the first to earn this certification."
In Atlanta, "we have a vision to be a premier sustainable city and it's exciting when companies have the same mindset of conserving resources and improving quality of life while supporting twenty-first century jobs in the Southeast," said Atlanta's Director of Resilience. Amol Naik. "We are proud that NCR has a world-class facility when it comes to corporate sustainability and I am proud that NCR and its employees call Atlanta home."
NCR earned LEED Platinum certifications to implement practical and measurable strategies and solutions aimed at achieving high performance in: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, material selection and indoor environmental quality. During interior construction, more than 87 percent of construction waste was recycled. The building is expected to use 35 percent less water and 30 percent less energy than a typical office. The building achieved the LEED Platinum badge for both the renovation of the Core and Shell exterior, as well as the Commercial Interior.
"It is extremely rewarding to work with NCR on our shared commitment to sustainability as we focus on developing high-performing assets to reduce our impact on the environment," said Colin Connolly, President and Chief Operating Officer of Cousins Properties. "We are delighted that the extensive work of our teams and partners has resulted in an Interior Platinum certification for Spring at 8th, in addition to the Core & Shell Platinum certification obtained earlier this year."
Two LEED Platinum certifications for a project is a unique achievement, with fewer than ten projects offering that honor right now. The work of innovative construction projects, such as NCR's Global Headquarters, is a sign of innovative and dedicated leadership and a fundamental driving force in transforming the way buildings are built, designed and operated, said Mahesh Ramanujam, President and CEO of USGBC.
