International. Vicente Álvarez-Cascos is a professional with more than 35 years in the Facility Management sector. He has been responsible for the FM departments of Nokia and ONO in Spain or Lucent Technologies in EMEA, he has also led the FM areas at Cushman & Wakefield or the development of the FM business in Eulen, so he knows both sides of the table well.
An active international participant in the promotion of the discipline and its standardization processes, he has held the presidency of the professional association in Spain (IFMA) where he has been a member of the board of directors for more than a decade.
David Martinez, CEO of FMHOUSE, comments on his incorporation "I have known Vicente for more than 25 years, and when he was invited to occupy the position, his extensive professional experience, an impeccable reputation, but above all his irrefutable ethics, factors that will provide an independent vision and a critical look at the development of an activity of great impact for the FM sector were taken into account".
The FM Observatory is the largest collaborative platform for the promotion and dissemination of Facility Management at an international level. With a non-profit approach, its activity focuses on the execution and publication of reports for the benefit of professionals in the sector. Aimed mainly at Spanish-speaking markets, it also collaborates in initiatives and produces international studies in other languages.
Vicente joins at a critical moment, since the growth of these last months makes it necessary to centralize and direct the many activities that are being carried out. "Since the possibility was opened in 2019 for people outside the company to participate in research tasks, the increase has been considerable and we needed to take the reins before losing control," says Cristina Vázquez, director of the FMHOUSE Institute, where FMHOUSE's training and research activities are located.
Vicente is not alone in this work, as he has the support of a technical committee with representatives from all sectors: customers, suppliers, academia and public institutions. The objective is to raise fm's position in companies and the recognition of its professionals within their organizations. "This year we already have 10 projects underway and every week new requests with proposals enter, "says the new director of the FM Observatory, which is already fully integrated into the day to day.
