Perimeter curtain detector with integrated outdoor camera

International. Ajax Systems announced the launch of the CurtainCam Outdoor HighMount (PhOD) Jeweller, an outdoor curtain-like motion detector that incorporates built-in photo verification.

The device is designed to protect specific areas of the perimeter—such as doors, windows, facades, or narrow corridors—by reducing false alarms and providing immediate visual evidence of detected events.

The new equipment is installed at a height of between 2 and 4 meters, which allows it to be kept out of the reach of people or machinery and, at the same time, create a narrow detection zone focused on critical areas. This configuration makes it suitable for environments such as warehouses, office complexes, construction sites and private residences, where it is necessary to monitor specific spaces without covering larger areas that can generate unnecessary activations.

To ensure accurate detection, the device combines two PIR sensors with a K-band microwave sensor. Infrared sensors detect changes in thermal radiation associated with human movement, while the microwave sensor verifies the event using radio frequency, helping to filter out thermal interference and minimize false alarms.

One of the outstanding elements of the system is its pre-alarm function, which activates the camera before the intrusion is confirmed. When the microwave sensor detects motion over a wider area, the system prepares the camera; if the object enters the narrow area controlled by the PIR sensor, the alarm is triggered and the image is captured at the right time.

The detector also integrates filtering algorithms such as SmartDetect, which analyzes the intensity of the hot spot, the size and speed of the object to differentiate people from other interferences. In addition, it incorporates temperature compensation, which allows precision to be maintained even when the ambient temperature approaches that of the human body. The device offers three levels of sensitivity to suit different installation environments.

In terms of safety, the equipment includes anti-tamper protection. An anti-masking system detects if the lens or sensor is covered, painted, or blocked, generating an alarm and capturing images of the tampering attempt. It also has an anti-tamper switch and magnetometer, which alert if the device is removed, opened or moved from its position.

The system supports eight types of photo verification, including photo by alarm, by programming, by scenario, by arming or disarming, and on demand from the user's app. In the event of an event, the detector can send up to five images, with the first available in less than nine seconds, even in low-light conditions thanks to infrared illumination.

In terms of connectivity, the device uses the proprietary Jeweller and Wings radio protocols to transmit events and photos in an encrypted way. It can communicate with the hub at distances of up to 1,700 meters, expandable by the ReX 2 Jeweller repeater.

The detector is designed for quick installation, incorporating a rotating bracket that allows the viewing angle to be adjusted up to 87° and the detection zone to be precisely configured. Integration into the system is done by scanning a QR code from Ajax's mobile or desktop apps.

According to the company, the device is aimed at industrial facilities, office complexes, warehouses and homes, where precise perimeter surveillance with visual confirmation of events is required.
