During the ceremony held on November 22 at the InterContinental Paris-Le grand Hotel in the French capital, the names of the winners of the 2011 edition of the Worldwide Hospitality Awardswere revealed.
The Marriott hotel chain confirmed that its new Courtyard Aeropuerto hotel in Mexico City will have as general director David Gauna, a character who began his career at Marriott in 1996 at the Marriott CasaMagna Cancun Resort hotel, as a cleaning supervisor.
The hotel, which will open its doors in the first half of 2012, bet on the experience of Gauna, who in 2005 was promoted to several management positions within the operations area, and then became director of operations.
On the other hand, in 2008, the now CEO served as resident manager at the Los Sueños Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort hotel in Costa Rica, and in early 2011 he accepted the position as director of operations at the JW Marriott Mexico City.
David is a graduate of the Instituto Regiomontano de Hotelería in Monterrey and obtained a BBA in Hotel Management. Some of David's accomplishments include recognitions as Manager of the Year in 2002, Rooms Financial Excellence and Rooms Customer Excellence in 2003 and 2004, respectively.
The InterContinental Medellín Hotel confirmed that its current general manager, Mr. Alexander (Tony) Ruiz was promoted by the Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) chain as its regional sales director.
Ruiz will be until August 31 at the head of the establishment in the Colombian city and then will travel to Miami to begin his new work in the corporate offices that the group has in that American city.
The executive has been in charge of the operation of the hotel for 9 years. He also served as president of the Board of Directors of Cotelco (Hotel Association, Antioquia-Choco Chapter) in three terms and as a senior member of the Board of Directors of the Medellín Convention & Visitors Bureau.
