Latin America. Around 124 Nicaraguan sustainable construction projects participate in the international LafargeHolcim Awards competition, which has the Professional and Next Generation categories.
Nicaragua participates with greater momentum in the Next Generation category with 103 initiatives of students from various universities in the country and 21 initiatives of professionals. The LafargeHolcim Foundation has created five geographic areas for the LafargeHolcim Awards: Europe, North America, Latin America, Africa-Middle East and Asia-Pacific. In each of these regions, the top three places are awarded with a total portfolio of US$2 million.
In this fifth cycle of the LafargeHolcim Awards International Competition there are a total of 5,085 entries from authors from 121 countries. The winners will be announced in the fourth quarter of the year, when seven major awards and four of the Next Generation awards will be presented in each region.
There are prizes from $330,000 to $10,000 on special mentions.
The LafargeHolcim Foundation promotes and supports sustainable responses to issues such as technology, environment, socio-economy and culture that affect buildings and buildings today.
The mission of the LafargeHolcim Foundation is to select and support initiatives that combine sustainable building solutions with excellence in architecture and life improvement, beyond just technical solutions.
In previous editions of the LafargeHolcim Awards, more projects were received in the Professional Awards category, but this year the balance is tipped towards young people between 18 and 30 years of age.
