What you should not miss
The paradise of fashion Make sure that when you leave the room you carry in your suitcase all the designer clothes you have fallen in love with. Milan's Via Montenapoleone is the heart of international fashion and home to brands such as Giorgio Armani, Fendi, Valentino and Versace. If you love brands but not their prices, why not buy at a reduced price in discounted design stores such as Salvagente, at number 16 of Via Bronzetti. (tel: 0039 276 110 328, www.salvagentemilano.it)
Lucky testicles! Halfway to the Vittorio Emanuele Gallery are four-story mosaics with symbols representative of the main Italian cities: Turin (the bull), Rome (the she-wolf with Romulus and Remus), Florence (the lily) and Milan (a red cross on a white background). There is a Milanese tradition that if you spin quickly three times on your heels above the testicles of the Turin bull it will bring you good luck.
Views to climb To take in the best views of the city, walk along the roof of Il Duomo Cathedral. On a day with clear skies, you can see all the roads to the Alps. There are two paths to go up to the cathedral, one walking and one by elevator. The walk costs 3.50 euros and is very demanded, but if you are not prepared for the challenge you can go up by elevator, which costs 5.00 euros.
