An old saying goes that everything comes through the eyes, but how true is this saying? Many times when we are in a restaurant we order the dish that we will consume depending on what it contains, as well as by its name or other times by the recommendations that have been given to us; however if when they serve us the dish is poorly presented we do not receive it and we prefer to change the order or leave the place. Wrapping and presentation sell, and this same situation happens when hotel facades have deteriorated over time.
The façade is the letter of introduction, not only because it is an architectural icon, but also because it is the letter of presentation of the hotel, its skin.
Many factors influence the time of construction, green buildings are now one of the most implemented designs and are under the gaze of architects and engineers who seek to help the environment, and erect buildings that attract their attention to guests and the whole world for their management in accordance with nature.
Some experts consider that the facades should be designed taking into account their maintenance, making them attractive but practical when it comes to support. However, at this point the statutes and rules that contemplate this aspect interfere. In some cities the law requires that the facades be reviewed every five years to prevent their deterioration, in others it only applies to certain points of the building, but the reality is that in Latin America very few countries have a law that requires the owners to do inspection and consequently maintenance.
Within the hotel sector this becomes a difficult issue, taking into account that the hotel business works 24 hours a day, seven days a week and you have to try not to disturb or inconvenience guests with the repair of the façade.
In this case, the most important thing is that a work plan is made and that there is a coordination of the activities between the architect, the construction manager and the hotel in order to avoid inconvenience in the operation of the hotel and those who are staying or visitors.
One of the important points at the time of building a building is the selection of materials and the future of the façade depends on this. Also in this space comes to light an outstanding element of architecture: the curtain walls.
These, which are made up of structures of light glass, stone, aluminum, marble, metal and other materials, have become a simple, effective and beautiful solution to some of the problems of modern facades. The materials of these walls minimize air and water filtration, equalizing the substantial wind pressure in tall buildings.
It should be noted that you must also be especially careful when designing and building a curtain wall, and take into account the climatic conditions of the municipality where the hotel is located.
