Last February, hotels in Puerto de Iguazú reported an average occupancy rate of only 30%. Due to this situation, each company is looking for alternatives to survive this bad season. One of the oldest hotels in the area is analyzing the possibility of closure due to low season in the months of May and June, and a new five-star establishment began to reduce its staff due to the low demand that was registered. However, five- and four-star hotels retain an occupancy of 50 percent.
Regarding this panorama, some entities related to tourism such as the Chamber of Tourism, the Municipal Tourism Agency (Emturi), the Association of Hoteliers, Gastronomists and Related of Iguazú (Ahgai) and the legal advisor of the municipality elaborate regulations to eliminate street promotion, regulate the rental of family homes and implement posters at the entrance to the city.
