Short stays become the best alternative to not give up the holidays
A study* by Hotels.com has revealed a 33% increase in the search for nano breaks compared to 2008. This study shows once again that travelers are determined not to eliminate vacations from their lives, they have simply shortened them.
Spanish cities are among the biggest beneficiaries of this increase in mini holiday searches. A clear example of this is the case of San Sebastian, a destination in which searches for this type of travel have experienced an increase of no less than 193%. In second place is Valencia, with a 60% increase, followed by Benidorm, with 59%, just ahead of Seville, with 49%, Cordoba, with 24%, and Barcelona, with 21% respectively.
However, nano breaks are not an exclusive product of the Spanish tourist offer. According to data collected by Hotels.com, Spanish travelers have also included among their searches for weekend getaways destinations from Europe and North Africa. Among the destinations that have increased this type of search the most in 2009 compared to 2008, Stockholm stands out especially, with a spectacular 293% increase, followed by London with 47%, Venice, with 62%, and Milan, with 27%.

Alison Couper, Communications Director at Hotels.com said: "Our study shows that travellers see holidays as a right and not as a luxury and the increase in the search for nano breaks is evidence of this. The simple fact of going on vacation for just one night is proof of the intense desire to relax and get away from work stress, even for a few hours. If we add to all this the falls in hotel prices along with the wonderful offers offered by pages such as Hotels.com with up to 50% discount, make this season the perfect opportunity for a mini vacation.
* Study conducted by Hotels.com based on searches of Spanish travelers staying for a single night during the month of January 2009, compared to January 2008. (Selection made on weekends, not to include business travelers).
