According to a study conducted among Hotels.com users,

Shopping tourism is consolidated during the last year among 60% of Spaniards

82% consider the current prices in the United States as an opportunity to buy quality items for less money Of this percentage, Madrilenians are the Spaniards who most bet on the Big Apple to go shopping (45%) 71% of people who have traveled to New York shopping or want to do so are women

A study by Hotels.com, the most visited hotel booking website in the world*, has revealed that 52% of Spaniards chose New York as their favorite shopping destination, among other cities such as Paris, Miami or London. Many travelers have taken advantage of the current prices in the United States to travel and enjoy quality products at half their price in Spain. Of course, enjoying the Big Apple is still a very important attraction for these tourists.

The survey also reveals the interest of 60% of Spaniards in shopping tourism in general. Half of this percentage make regular shopping trips while the other 50% plan to do so soon. Other outstanding destinations for this type of travel are Paris, chosen by 13% of users, Miami, by 10%, or London, a favorite destination for 9% of Spaniards.

In order for crossing the pond to be profitable, given the savings we obtain in these purchases, 41% of Spaniards believe that a minimum of 4 days in the city is necessary. 33% prefer to be there for at least 7 days, 15% spend more than a week and 11% believe that 2 or 3 days is enough.

As far as the sex of the respondents is concerned, we can say that the topic is fulfilled, since 71% of those who have made or wish to make a shopping trip to New York are women.

Among that 52% who choose New York as their favorite shopping destination, 46% are young people between 25 and 34 years old, followed by the age group between 35 and 44 years old with 25%, with the vast majority being single, with 68%. From this it can be deduced that young people without a stable partner are the ones who invest the most in shopping tourism.

It should be noted that the highest percentage of Spaniards who prefer New York as a shopping destination is Madrid, with 45%, in second place are Catalan citizens, with 25%, followed by Castilian-Leonese, with 8%.

To join this growing trend with considerable savings, www.hotels.com offers until the end of the year discounts of up to 30% on some of the best hotels in New York, such as the New York Palace.

* The Hotels.com website is the most visited in the 'Hotels/Accommodation Provider' category, according to comScore Media Metrix (January-December 2007).
