Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) revealed that it will participate in the hotel industry's carbon measurement working group, a project that seeks a methodology that calculates carbon emissions and footprints.
In order to make customers understand the background of the carbon emissions phenomenon and how hotels are involved in this issue, organizations such as the International Tourism Association (ITP) and the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) have joined IHG in this campaign.
IHG's Vice President of Corporate Responsibility, David Jerome, said: "There is currently no clear system that indicates how hotels calculate and communicate carbon emissions, so the industry's work to standardise its practices will provide customers with an understanding of the environmental impact of the hotels they are staying at."
IHG now focuses on the design of smart green buildings, in fact it has now published version 2.0 of "Green Commitment" an online program that helps hotels reduce their environmental impact by taking the guest experience; this program works for the group's 4,400 hotels.
