In a study conducted by the National Administrative Department of Statistics (Dane) and the Office of Economic Studies attached to the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism of Colombia, it was revealed that April has been the month that has reported the highest income reported since 2006 in terms of profits in the hotel market.
The growth was 16.7% compared to this figure with that obtained in April 2011.
As explained by the person in charge of that portfolio, Minister Sergio Díaz-Granados from April 2012 the growth of hotel revenues was 12.5%, "the sector has strengthened, we have gone on to have excellent income motivated by the arrival of more national and international travelers to the various regions of Colombia".
The hotel industry not only generates revenue and growth on behalf of its end users: in April of this year the workforce for this sector was also on the rise, growing by 5.2% compared to the same month in 2011.
On the other hand, occupancy levels in the month in question were 51.4%, that is, 4.1 percentage points more than in the same period in 2011.
The study revealed that business, events and conventions were the main reason for mobilizing travelers to Colombian hotels. 44% of the total occupancy was for business, while 42% did it for leisure.
Likewise, 8.2% of guests were participants in events and conventions, this is the highest figure in the last two years.
