Taking into account the accumulated figures in relation to this item, the first half of 2012 also reported much more positive figures than last year. During the first six months of this year, the Colombian hotel industry had an occupancy of 53.8%, compared to 52.4% in 2011.
In the ranking of the cities that showed a better performance for hoteliers are Santa Marta (69.2%), those located in the surroundings of Bogotá (62.6%) and San Andrés (62.5%), while the most discreet behaviors were presented in the Southwestern region (34%), Santander (40.4%) and Boyacá (43.8%).
On the other hand, the Colombian capital has seen its tourist activity decrease, registering a cumulative occupancy of 59% in the first half of 2012, compared to 63% in 2011.
According to the president of the Board of Directors of Cotelco, Juan Carlos Osorio, "there are days of the month where there are hardly any rooms available in some sectors, but we have others where the offer is above the service. We are very focused on the fact that every time a new hotel opens, it is of quality, of qualification of services".
According to the figures, hotels that offer differentiated services maintain a better rating without affecting the price per room. Five-star hotels had a monthly occupancy during the first half of 2012 of 61.9%, which means a growth of 2.3% compared to the same period in 2011.
Three-star establishments decreased by 1% in their occupancy compared to the previous year, with an occupancy during the first half of the current year, of 53.3%.
