Chile. The Chilean Energy Efficiency Agency (AChEE) presented the results of a pilot program that it has been developing with Shopping Centers in the country to reduce their electricity consumption.
The initiative, which was also accompanied by the Chilean Chamber of Shopping Centers and Supermarkets of Chile (CCHCC), consisted of developing technical guides that would serve to improve the design and operation in the different sectors of supermarkets so that the construction was adequate to achieve greater efficiency.
According to the entities, it was possible to save more than 16,000 Mega watts hour (MWH). Manuel Melero, president of the CCHCC, said that "it is a pride for the industry to be presenting today such significant figures that show that it is possible to reduce energy consumption and keep service standards intact."
Similarly, William Phillips, director of AChEE, said that "the success stories of the supermarket and shopping center sector that we announce today, without a doubt, will motivate other industries to participate in this type of initiative, understanding that it is a joint responsibility to collaborate in the correct use of energy and improve good practices in different industries."
