Colombia. According to a report published by the specialized media Dinero, the sustainable construction sector in Colombia continues to consolidate and already reaches an area of 3.15 million square meters, which is equivalent to 12.8% of the total area licensed for construction in 2013.
The above, thanks to the 134 projects that are currently under development and have been registered in the official directory of the US entity in charge of granting LEED certification, the US Green Building Council. These projects will be added to the 40 buildings that already have the certification in this country.
In statements by Cristina Gamboa, executive director of the Colombian Council of Sustainable Construction (CCCS) to this local media, the official stressed that the 40 buildings already certified are standing out for their achievements because they have obtained reductions of up to 90% in the use of water and up to 70% in electrical energy.
Finally, Gamboa pointed out that "for the Council it is indifferent which certification system the industry wants to use. The important thing is that there is a culture of measuring results and that people can know what is really green."
